Suwon Day Trip: Lovely Runner & a Joseon Time Slip
Why Suwon
Lovely Runner turned Suwon’s fortress quarter into the hottest K-drama pilgrimage neighborhood of 2024–25 — and unlike most drama day trips, the whole thing runs on a T-money card: Line 1 subway from Seoul, ~65 minutes, about ₩1,900. Pair the drama walk with the Korean Folk Village’s Joseon-era sets (Moon Lovers, Jewel in the Palace, The Moon Embracing the Sun) and you get modern-romance Suwon and sageuk Korea in one day.
One subway warning: Line 1 splits at Guro — board a Cheonan/Sinchang-bound train, not the Incheon branch. (A KTX from Seoul Station does it in 30 minutes if you’re impatient.)

Skip-the-planning option
Agencies now run dedicated Lovely Runner Suwon tours from Seoul (₩70,000, about 8 hours, several departures a week) hitting the same drama spots with a guide — worth it if the bus sequencing above reads like homework. The Folk Village + Hwaseong combo also exists as a classic day tour ($53+).
For the sageuk completists
Dae Jang Geum Park (대장금파크) — MBC’s massive historical-drama backlot (Jewel in the Palace, Moon Lovers, Mr. Queen) — is in the same province but not realistically combinable with this route: it’s ~2 hours from Seoul via Nambu Terminal → Baekam → local bus. Treat it as its own half-day via a shuttle-and-ticket package, or swap it in for the Folk Village if the backlot matters more to you than the performances.
Tips
- Do the Folk Village first. Its shuttle times are the day’s only rigid constraint; the drama spots stay open (and get prettier) into the evening.
- Mong Ted is a small private café that became a pilgrimage site — go on a weekday, buy something, and keep resident noise in mind. The staff are used to fans asking for “Sol’s rooftop” photos.
- Paste the Korean names into Naver Map; 행리단길 and 방화수류정 in particular don’t surface well in English.
- April–May and October give the fortress walls their best light; the pond scene at sunset is the shot everyone comes for.
